Ichimpe Plantations is one of ZAFFICO’s plantation groups with the total net are of about 11,936 ha which is spread across four (4) districts namely; Kitwe, Chingola, Kalulushi and Mufulira.
Ichimpe Plantations is found along Kitwe-Chingola road, 14 kilometers away from Kitwe but between Garneton and Mukuba University junctions, it is about 2.5km away from the main road to the offices. The Plantation has a labour force of 146 employees of which 56 are permanent employees while 90 are on special contract. Seasonal employees (casual workers) range from 500 – 1500 depending on the nature of operations during a particular period of the year.
Ichimpe Plantations started its replanting programme in 2006/07 planting season with about 160 ha and the figure has continued to increase steadily up to 1000 ha the current replanting area, this has been necessitated by the increase in demand for roundwood, hence opening up more areas. And so far, the group is managing about 6,858ha of replanted areas out of the total area of 11,936 ha representing 57% (young stands) while the rest are mature stands.
Due to its proximity to the raw material, the group has the 2nd highest number of customers with all of them being small scale sawmillers ranging from 200- 300.
