ZAFFICO AND NDOLA FITNESS SQUAD LAUNCH THE ZAFFICO MARATHON

The Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation (ZAFFICO PLC) and Ndola Fitness Squad (NFS) officially launched the ZAFFICO Marathon on Wednesday, 20th August.

The initiative which falls under ZAFFICO’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme was launched under the theme “MILES OF HOPE, SHELTER OF CARE” and will be the first of its kind under the three- year partnership with NFS.

Speaking during the launch, ZAFFICO Managing Director Mundia Mundia said that the marathon is more than a sporting event but a demonstration of how the corporation is deeply entrenched in supporting the communities where it operates.

He added that this year’s marathon will support the completion of a mothers’ shelter at Mukutuma Rural Health Centre in Lufwanyama District and provide a safe, dignified space for expectant mothers who often travel long distances under harsh conditions while awaiting delivery.

“In our journey towards an integrated approach to forest management, we recognise that communities that host our plantations and processing plants are key players in our business. Today, we are not only announcing a marathon but changing lives.

Mr. Mundia encouraged athletes, fitness enthusiasts, families, corporate teams and community groups to be part of this initiative and support the cause.

Meanwhile, Ndola Fitness Squad chairperson Bwalya Sitemba applauded the partnership with ZAFFICO adding that, the group has finally secured a strategic partner that shares its vision.

“For the very first time, we have found a partner who shares our vision therefore, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to ZAFFICO for believing in us and investing in a cause that uplifts both individuals and the community at large.

Further, the Zambia Athletics president Major Bernard Bwalya highlighted that such partnerships have the ability to transform lives and inspire the on the Copperbelt and beyond.

“The ZAFFICO Marathon will act as an economic driver that will bring opportunities for small businesses, create jobs and strength the tourism profile for Ndola,” he said.

“In the long run, this event has the potential to become a signature attraction for the city, positioning Ndola as a hub for both athletics and business growth.”

Through this three-year partnership, ZAFFICO also acquired naming rights to the marathon, solidifying its long-term commitment to the initiative and the communities it serves.

Both partners envision a future where the ZAFFICO Marathon becomes an annual tradition, blending fitness with philanthropy while inspiring healthier and more compassionate communities. The marathon is scheduled to take place on the 8th of November, 2025.
