His Excellency Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia has officially commissioned the ZAFFICO Pole Treatment Plant in Kalulushi on the Copperbelt Province. Speaking in Kalulushi, he stated that the Pole Treatment Plant was going to make the country self-reliant in meeting the local demand for treated poles while contributing to the nation’s wealth creation and the well-being of the Zambian people. He urged ZESCO, Rural Electrification Authority (REA), Zamtel and other local companies who are the users of treated poles to promote the plant by buying the treated poles from ZAFFICO. He added that ZAFFICO’s survival was solely dependent on the support from local companies. Speaking at the same function President Lungu directed the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) to ensure that the proposed partnership between ZAFFICO and Workers Compensation Fund was expedited and brought to fruition. Furthermore, he commended ZAFFICO for the good works it was doing in Kawambwa and the Corporation’s commitment to contribute to national development, thereby uplifting the well-being of the people of Kawambwa District.
And speaking on behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of ZAFFICO, Prof. Jacob Mwitwa, Chairperson of the ZAFFICO Board, thanked the President for accepting to come and commission the plant and the support the PF Government had continued to render to the Corporation. He informed the President that the Corporation spent a total of K20 million on the establishment of the plant using the local contractor. He added that the plant was going to employ, about 500 local people directly and indirectly along the value chain. He thanked the President for His personal support towards ZAFFICO’s programmes which he had always found time to visit both in Kawambwa and Shiwangandu and now in Kalulushi.
The Commissioning of the ZAFFICO Pole Treatment Plant was witnessed by the Copperbelt Province Minister, Mr Bowman Lusambo MP, Her Worship the Mayor of Kalulushi Madam Rashida Mulenga, Senior PF Party and Government Officials, Traditional leaders, ZAFFICO Board, Management and Staff of ZAFFICO, and members of the public from all walks of life. The Pole Treatment Plant will be producing about 140,000 Treated Poles per year.
